Sometimes the images you feel will be the easiest are the most challenging. Besides the compositional significance of the work, it demanded a certain textural balance between the different surfaces in the image. Although the images document the processes I utilized, they don’t go into the depth and breadth of the time it took to get the finished look and feel. All tallied, it took three salt ground aquatints, four different etches, three spray aquatints, sanding, burnishing, and scraping back into (and out of) the image. Two months later it finally got to a place where I was happy with the feel of the pavement and the balance it had with the fox and the white paved line of the road.
